Using Windows Update

With the flood of program patches and security updates, users are hard-pressed to keep their operating system up to date. Windows users have a utility that helps them stay on top of all the changes, the Windows Update website.

To use the Windows Update website, connect to the Internet then follow these instructions:

  1. Click on Start and Windows Update. This will bring you to the Windows Update website.
  2. Click on Product Updates.
  3. You will see that the site analyzes your computer setup. This is normal and may take a few moments.
  4. When the site is finished, you will see a list of available updates, the most important of these are Critical Updates, and Recommended Updates.
  5. Put a checkmark besides updates you would like to install (We strongly suggest installing Critical Update Notification)
  6. Click on the Download button then you are finished. This will bring you to the confirmation screen.
  7. Review the list of updates provided and un-check any that have slipped in by mistake.
  8. Click on Start Download.
  9. This will display various install windows, just follow the instructions presented on your screen.
