Connecting with Windows XP
These instructions will walk you though connecting
to with Windows XP. Make sure that you have your username
and password handy, as they will be required in these configuration
instructions.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Click on Network and Internet Connections.
- Click on Setup or change your Internet Connection.
- Select the Connections tab.
- Click on the Setup... button.
- If this is your first time setting up a connection on
your computer, you will be asked to specify your dialing properties.
If this is not the first time making a connection on your computer,
please skip to step 12.
- Specify United-States for country and region.
- Type in your area code.
- If you need to dial a number to get an outside line, please
specify it in the If you need to dial a number to access an
outside line, what is it? box.
- Make sure that the Tone Dialing radio button is selected.
- You will see the New Connection Wizard
window. Click on Next.
- Make sure that the Connect to the Internet radio button
is selected. Click on Next.
- Select the Set up my connection manually radio button.
Click on Next.
- Select Connect using a dial-up modem for a modem connection.
If you are connecting via DSL, select the Connect using a broadband
connection that requires a username and password. Click on
Next.
- Type in the ISP Name box. Click on
Next. If you are using a DSL connection, please skip to
step 18.
- Type in your local access number in the phone number box.
To obtain the correct access number for your location, please
consult our Service Availability
page.
- You will be prompted for the following:
User Name: Type your user name which is the
same as your email address, for example user@.
Password: Type the your password. Confirm
Password: Type your password again, to confirm it.
- Put a checkmark in use this account name and password when
anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.
- Put a checkmark in Make this the default Internet connection.
- Do Not put a checkmark in Turn on Internet
Connection Firewall for this connection.
- Click on Next.
- Select Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.
Click on Finish.
Your connection to will appear on your desktop. Double-click
on it to connect to the Internet.
